Chickamauga Elementary PTO

Trojan Pride Starts Here!

Welcome from the Presidents

Welcome back to school! This time comes so quickly each year. The PTO has met through the summer to plan some of activities and fundraisers for this school year. We have a great team of officers and we are anticipating a successful and productive year again.

Some of the events we will be having include: PTO Membership Drive, Fall Festival, the Art Auction, Secret Santa Workshop, United Scrip Program, Box Tops for Education, and others. One of our main goals this year is to furnish the PATS position with a compatible computer/printing system.

The 2008/2009 PTO Membership Form is now available. Please take the time to fill out and return to your child's teacher or bring it to the 1st PTO meeting. We will have a table set up for membership. The dues are still $2.00 per person and we would love to have 100% participation.

We will continue to use the CES/PTO Web site this year. There you will find helpful information, officer contact information, and any PTO forms you may need.

Our PTO meetings will be held once a month, at 6:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria. We will have a meeting schedule posted on the Web site as soon as possible, we will also send home a schedule and reminder notices. We invite all elementary school parents and members of the community to the meetings.

Please feel free to contact any of the 2008-2009 officers with any questions or concerns you may have. We appreciate your input. The PTO looks forward to working with parents and faculty of CES to have a successful and productive PTO year at Chickamauga Elementary School!

Completed PTO goals for 2007-2008

CES Reading Garden

This has been a productive year for the PTO in achieving some long-needed goals. The first project that was completed just in time for the Christmas concert was the purchase of new stage curtains. A special thanks goes to Jill Craddock of Piedmont Designs. These curtains were enjoyed throughout the year during the Spring Concert and Talent Show as well. During spring break Greg Hearne placed the security fencing around the caboose and the playground. He also placed the access gate for the reading garden. This fencing ensures the safety of our children. The final project completed was the landscaping of the reading garden. The reading garden is located in back of the library and is accessible by going down the hallway to the music and special education rooms. Thanks to Kevin Jones of Heritage Landscapes for a beautiful project. The children can utilize this area for reading and quiet time, enjoying the fresh grass and flowers. There are swings and a table for their leisure.

Tyson Project A+

The PTO has announced that the school is now taking part in Project A+, a national fund-raising program sponsored by Tyson Foods, Inc. The program allows schools to earn money from Tyson by collecting and redeeming the Project A+ labels on various Tyson products that feature the Project A+ logo on the front of the package. Each label collected is worth 24¢ for the school.

Participating schools can earn up to $12,000 per academic year, and there are no restrictions on how the funds are used. The money raised may be used for field trips, computer equipment, sports gear, library books, playground equipment — anything!.

Parents, friends, relatives, and others in the community may drop off their Tyson Project A+ redemption labels at the school or send them in with students in plastic baggies or envelopes with Tyson printed on the outside.

The PTO urges everyone to participate in the program. If everyone out in the community clips and saves the Tyson Project A+ redemption labels, this program can be a huge success for our school. Start sending in those labels now!

For more information on the Tyson Project A+ program, contact Mandy Motley at 866-9991.

Don't forget Box Tops for Education. Send in your box tops for education and help make dollars for the elementary school.

Rapid Refill has placed a box near the main office to collect used ink cartridges. Please send your old cartridges with your child and help the PTO earn dollars.
