2008 season updates
May 8Derek Roberts placed third and Manny Hinkle finished fourth in the pole vault at the state meet in Jefferson.
May 2 At the girls' state meet in Albany, Anna Quinn and Mallory Crowder tied for third in the pole vault while Brittny Morgan tied for fourth in the high jump.
Apr 29 The Trojans finished second in the Region 6-A meet and qualified eight athletes for the state meet. Winning region titles for GLHS were Derek Roberts in the pole vault and Jordan Afman in the 100m. Gordon Lee got second-place finishes from Manny Hinkle in the pole vault, Josh Guthrie in the long jump, Joseph Kennedy in the shot put and discus, Tyler Oyer in the 3200m, Roberts in the 110m high hurdles, and Afman in the 200m. The 4x100m relay team (Afman, Roberts, Ryan Culbreth, Russell Wright) also finished second.
Apr 24 The boys' team defeated LFO, Howard, and Ridgeland in a meet. Event winners were Ethan White, Derek Roberts, Manny Hinkle, and Jordan Afman.

Apr 22 The Lady Trojans won their second straight Region 6-A championship, and qualified nine athletes for the state meet. Winning individual championships were Anna Quinn in the pole vault with a GLHS-record leap of 10-3, Brittny Morgan in the high jump and 800m, and Laurie Sieg in the 400m. Second-place finishers were Mallory Crowder in the pole vault and 100m hurdles, Kelly Mariakis in the long jump and triple jump, Caroline Jewell in the high jump, Molly Rodgers in the 400m, Amber Early in the 200m, and Haley Smith in the 3200m. Gordon Lee won both relay events, and the 4x100m team (Quinn, Sieg, Morgan, Early) set a new school record with a time of 52.17.
Apr 15 The Trojans won eight events and the Lady Trojans captured seven in a dual meet at LFO. Josh Guthrie was first in the long jump and high jump, Joseph Kennedy won the shot put, and Derek Roberts took the pole vault. Manny Hinkle won the 300m hurdles, Tyler Oyer was first in the 3200m, while the 4x100m relay team also won. Jordan Afman won the 200m and set a new GLHS record with a time of 10.94 in winning the 100m. The girls' team got wins from Anna Quinn in the pole vault, Amber Early in the 100m and 200m, Laurie Sieg in the 400m and 800m, and both relay teams.
Mar 28 At the Gordon Lee Invitational, Brittny Morgan won both the 800m and the 300m hurdles while Anna Quinn set a new meet record in the pole vault with a mark of 9-6 to help the Lady Trojans finish third in the 10-team field. Derek Roberts won the pole vault and Joseph Kennedy took the shot put for the Trojans, who finished sixth.
Mar 20 Four Lady Trojans and two Trojans placed first at the LFO invitational. Brittny Morgan, Laurie Sieg, Molly Rodgers, and Anna Quinn took top honors for the girls, while Joseph Kennedy and Derek Roberts were winners for the boys. Roberts set the meet record in the pole vault with a leap of 12-9.
Mar 18 The Lady Trojans defeated LFO and Ridgeland while the Trojans defeated Ridgeland but lost to LFO in a three-way meet. Gordon Lee got first-place finishes from Molly Rodgers, Amber Early, Brittny Morgan, Mallory Crowder, Anna Quinn, Devin Shields, Derek Roberts, Joseph Kennedy, and Laurie Sieg.
Mar 6 The Lady Trojans won five events and the Trojans won four at the season-opening tri-meet at LaFayette. Molly Rodgers was first in the 400m, Amber Early won the 100m, and Brittny Morgan took the 800m. GLHS also won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The Trojans got wins from Joseph Kennedy in both the shot put and discus, from Aaron Mize in the high jump, and from Jordan Afman in the 100m.
